Pickleball was all the rage Saturday at the Langley Events Centre

Hudson Lebold kept his eye on the whiffle ball during the Try It! Fair Saturday at the Langley Events Centre. Eight-year-old Hudson was trying pickleball which will be one of the sports included in the BC Seniors Games hosted by Langley Sept. 9-13, 2014. Photograph by: Troy Landreville - See more at:

Pickleball was all the rage Saturday at the Langley Events Centre. Racquets in hand, kids and adults tried the unique sport, a hybrid between tennis, ping pong, and badminton.
They bounced a whiffle ball back and forth over a lowered net during the Township of Langley-hosted Try It! Fair held inside the LEC’s Building B.  The free annual event is part of Sports Day in Canada and is put on in partnership with the LEC, Pacific Sport, and the City of Langley. The day offered a dozen different sports and activities.
Just some of the stations included ball hockey through the Valley Ball Hockey Association, gymnastics hosted by the Langley Gymnastics Foundation, and martial arts demonstrations from Shorei-Kai Canada Karate and Woo Kim Tae Kwon Do.
Fair organizer and Township of Langley Recreation Coordinator Stephanie Eby said the event recognizes the importance of sport and being active for life.  “We wanted people to try the different sports that are out there,” she added. “We tried to pick some local sports organizations that you might not have heard of before.”
Basketball and pickleball were two of the more popular activities, Eby said, noting that pickleball will be included in the next BC Seniors Games hosted by Langley Sept. 9-13, 2014.
“It’s something we wanted to highlight at this event,” Eby said, regarding pickleball. “We definitely want people to find a way to be active for life. We know that a certain sport isn’t for everybody so that’s why we’re showcasing as many as we can, so they can find their way to get active.”

Many schools have implemented pickleball in the P.E. curriculum.  Many thanks go to our hard working Ambassadors and supporters in promoting Pickleball in Canada!

The 2nd Pickleball Canada National Open Championship was successfully  held in Abbotford, BC with a record 230 players on July 6 - 7, 2013.   Players came from all over N. Pickleball in Costa Rica, Bora Bora and St. John's Newfoundland

From Costa Rica to Bora Bora and St. John’s Newfoundland Submitted by Audrey Phillips, USAPA Ambassador, Southern CaliforniaI just received an e-mail from the General Manager of the Westin Golf Resort and Spa, in Playa Conchal, Costa Rica that their property has opened the first dedicated pickleball court in the country.
Also, during a recent trip to Bora Bora, French Polynesia this group of USAPA members taught French guests the game of pickleball on a grass court. We are now sending paddles, balls and nets to them in Paris. And lastly, these pickleballs were sighted in the window of a sporting goods store in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Slamma Jamma Spokane, WA Tournament

USAPA Ambassador Spokane Valley wrote:

I want to thank the three brave Canadian Pickleballers who joined us here in Spokane for the Regional Tournament called the Slamma Jamma. We had 82 players who played round robin format with eight games guaranteed and several played 18 games. We started at 8:00 A.M. and finished by 2:30 P.M. Most players were very very tired.

I want to especially thank Mike Carter and Carol who worked tirelessly to help bring off a very successful tournament. Mike sang the National Anthems of both Canada and America. Mike practiced for months and his voice was beautiful. Thank you Mike!

My dream is to have a large contingency from our Canadian friends and neighbors at next years Slamma Jamma. Please put it on you schedule as a stop on your way south for the winter.

Pickleball Canada Sanctioned Tournaments, Tournament Points and IFP Player Ratings

2013 Pickleball Canada's Sanctioned Tournaments:  The 2nd Pickleball Canada National Open Championship, Nanaimo Pickleball Tournament and Ontario 50+ Pickleball Tournament.

Pickleball Canada publish the results and photos of all sanctioned tournaments and tournament points on our newsletters and we also publish the top 50 players in Canada with the most tournament points of each year for recognition of their achievements.

Benefits of Tournament Points:

Tournament Points are awarded as recognition of achievement in Sanctioned Tournaments.
Tournament Points will be used to publish a list of the top 50 tournament point winners at the end of each calendar year.
Tournament Points may be used by Tournament Directors to determine seeding in tournament brackets.
Tournament Points may be used by the Ratings Committee to determine a player's rating at the end of each year.

IFP Player Ratings are available for players in the U.S. and Canada.  PCO publishes the official IFP player ratings on the IFP website   If any of our members would like to get an IFP rating because they play in the USA in the winters, please contact Pickleball Canada to post an IFP player's rating for them (a self rating approved by PCO Ambassador, Tournament Director or a committee). PCO and USAPA use the same IFP player ratings because we want to have the same player's ratings in each country so players can play in the same skill rated tournaments in Canada or USA.
